Trihalomethanes (THMs) are created from a chemical reaction between water and the chlorine used to disinfect it. You should not drink water with a high level of THMs. This article explains some of the health risks of trihalomethanes, including reproductive problems and cancer.
Drinking water in many communities in the area is treated with chlorine or chloramines, which could lead to the production of trihalomethane (THMs) as well as a bad taste and odor.

I don't typically write reviews - but, felt compelled to because of the outstanding experience we've had with Culligan of Houston. We recently had our 2nd Culligan system installed and are loving it! We decided to upgrade because we saw the benefits of having an even better whole home system. We have chlorine free water throughout our home and an Reverse Osmosis drinking water system at our sink that's also attached to our fridge. We use less detergent, bath soap, shampoo....I could go on and on - it's amazing what a difference it makes! We've saved a TON of money over the last 8 years since we got our first Culligan system. We received the best ever service call from Chance yesterday afternoon. Culligan is an excellent product in itself, but Chance is the best service technician that has ever come to our home. Not only did he fix the problem with the reverse-osmosis equipment, he tested the water both from the reverse-osmosis filter and the softening system, too, explaining what he was testing for and showing us the results. He was clearly knowledgeable, even impressive. He was super patient with two little boys (ages 3 and 5) who wanted to watch the testing procedure.
